Troove asks you a series of questions about your learning and social preferences and priorities and compares your answers to data about every school and the answers to the same questions from people currently in college and people who have graduated from college. This allows Troove to match you with schools because you’re not only a good fit with what the school has to offer, but because you also share many of the same preferences and priorities as the people who have come before you and who’ve already found the success you’re looking for. We let their success guide your success.
That depends on where you are in your search process! If you feel like you already have a clear list of schools, use Troove to gain some additional insights into your schools and highlight any issues that you should look into further, like “is the social culture of the school really right for me?” Meeting people who go there now or who have recently graduated would be a great next step. If you’re earlier in your search process, Troove is the perfect place to start. We give you a great set of schools you can confidently explore with your parents, friends, Guidance Counselor, or just good old Google! Think of Troove as a friend who really knows you well and will tell it to you straight. Then it’s up to you to explore and decide, secure in the knowledge that Troove is on your side!
That’s one of the great things about Troove! On your own, you might think about 10, 20, maybe 30 schools. The problem with that is there are actually over 3,500 schools out there, which means 99% of them never get on your radar! That’s where Troove comes in. We compare your inputs to 100% of the schools out there and show you where there’s a great fit and why. You’ll know plenty of the schools that fit you well, but Troove can also be a great way to find schools you don’t yet know about that could be absolutely perfect for you.
It means anytime, anywhere you can instantly know if you’re a good fit with any school and why. Once you’ve completed your profile, you can come back to Troove any time - from your phone, laptop, wherever - type in the name of a school and boom - you’ve got instant Troove scores for your Learning Culture and Social Culture fit and why. A friend just mentioned a school you should consider - Troove it! Your mom or dad just asked you if you knew anything about a new school - Troove it! Guidance Counselor tells you to look into a school you might like - Troove it!
We keep it simple and give you Green (High), Yellow (Medium), and Red (Low) scores based on how well your answers align with data about the school and the answers to the same questions by people who’ve been happy and successful there. Green means that your learning and social answers align well. Yellow means one or both of your learning or social scores don’t align very well. And Red means your answers don’t align well. For each of your scores, we give you explanations so you can dig further into any areas of concern. But remember, you’re in charge! Troove isn’t here to tell you what to do or where to go. We’re here to support you and give you honest, direct, and clear information.
How good your grades are is important, but it turns out your high school GPA isn’t a very good predictor of college success, happiness, or fit. Having a GPA that’s fairly consistent with your classmates is important to making sure you’re comfortable and contributing in the classroom, but so too is making sure you learn in the same way a school teaches. Where most of high school learning takes place in the classroom, college can be a much more diverse learning experience. Internships, independent labs, self-designed majors, field research, foreign study - all of these things come into play in college, so Troove’s Learning Culture fit score takes all of this into consideration.
Did you know that most of your college experience will be outside the classroom? For most college students, 60-70% of their (awake!) time at school will be spent with friends, enjoying extracurriculars and sports, working a part-time job, volunteering, traveling, attending events, and yes, even enjoying the odd party. Troove’s Social Culture fit score takes all of this into consideration for you, matching you with the places and people that best align with your priorities, needs, and interests.
Diversity is the lifeblood of college. It's what makes campuses vibrant, engaging places to learn, live, and grow. Getting away from home, beyond the familiar, is a huge part of higher education and Troove was specifically designed to support that mission. We focus all of our attention on your social and learning priorities, values, interests, and abilities and we introduce you to school communities only on that basis. You control location. You control gender. You control race and ethnicity (we don’t even ask these questions). Instead, we focus exclusively on what binds and inspires communities in and out of the classroom, so we can empower schools and applicants to actively build diverse communities around common cores. We allow you to highlight both your individuality and your shared interests and priorities so schools can celebrate all of that on their campuses and through their faculties, staffs, students, and alumni.
Troove ONLY EVER shares your information with Green fit scores. We will NEVER share your fit information with a school when your fit is Yellow or Red. That’s because we’re here to help you and schools find the connections that lead to success. A lot of websites and testing services will send your information to any and every school they possibly can. Not Troove. Ever. We are only focused on great outcomes, helping you and schools find the best possible fits so the maximum numbers of students graduate on time and at a price they can afford. So why would we ever give your information to a school where we believe there’s a bad fit? The answer is… we NEVER will. You can obviously always apply to any school you want to, regardless of Troove scores, but only your Green schools will ever know you’ve Trooved them.
Use Troove and other resources to dig into why your fit isn’t great. Troove will tell you what issues we see so you can gather more information from the schools, your family, friends, counselors, and the internet. There’s a lot of information out there, but the important thing is you identify potential problem areas now and then sort through them. After that, apply or don’t based on knowledge and awareness - it’s entirely up to you. And remember, Troove will NEVER communicate a Yellow or Red fit to a school, so you can comfortably explore all of your matches without giving up control.
Yes! Troove is here to help you and give you insights you can’t find anywhere else, so it is super important not to try and “game” the system. You’ll only be cheating yourself. The college search process can take a long time and as you progress through high school, you’re going to change and what you want for your future is going to change. That’s as it should be! So as you progress, check in with your Troove answers once or twice a year, just to make sure they accurately reflect you now. Unlike other quizzes and tests in school and in college admissions, there are no right or wrong answers with Troove - just our answers - so be honest with yourself and trust the insights you gain. We’re here to help you!
Once or twice a year you should go back through your answers and make sure they accurately reflect your growth. You SHOULD be learning and evolving, so making sure our answers give the most accurate portrayal of yourself is what will serve you best. But remember, trying to “game” Troove so you get a Green fit at a particular school is simply you hurting yourself. Yellow and Red scores aren’t bad answers, they’re good answers! They give you information that’s as helpful to you as a Green score because nobody fits in everywhere. Be yourself, be honest with yourself, and use Troove to figure out where you do AND don’t belong. And remember, Troove ONLY ever shares Green scores, so Yellow and Red can never hurt you.
